From the City of Asheville.
The city will begin the planned sidewalk and roadway improvement project on Haywood Road from Craven Street to Beecham’s Curve Monday October 5th. This project will complete the sidewalk link on the uphill side of the street, improve the downhill sidewalk, and provide an improved permanent climbing lane for bicycles. During the construction, the bicycle climbing lane will be closed for the duration of the project and other occasional closures of the driving lane and downhill sidewalk can be expected. The project is targeted for completion by the middle of February, 2016. Drivers can expect to share the lanes with bicycles during the project. Please keep in mind that bicycles have the right to the full lane where there is no bike lane. Bicyclists may want to consider other routes between West Asheville and Downtown to avoid the bike lane closure, including Craven Street and Waynesville Avenue.
