Yolie & Peter Affatato the owners of locally ran and supplied business, Nona Mia , stay active in local philanthropy. Their special passion is helping improve the lives of children in the community. When the subject of child hunger is presented, the image that comes to mind is frequently of starving children in Africa. However, there are 16 million children in the U.S. who go to bed hungry every night! That’s 1 out of 5 kids.
In an effort to empower children and provide fresh, healthy food, the Affatatos are starting the “Garden Project.” Its purpose is to put gardens in all local schools where children can learn about healthy food, gain hands on experience in growing it, as well as bringing it home to promote health & alleviate the hunger problem. The Garden Project would also like to provide the resources for kids to bring home seeds or small plants & tools to begin their own gardens at home. If you are interested in volunteering, donating or networking for the garden project, please email mynonamia@gmail.com with the subject line “Garden Project.”
