Asheville on Bikes celebrates the Summer Cycle with Oskar Blues Brewery North Carolina on Sunday, June 26th, 2016. The ride begins at Second Gear in West AVL and culminates at Kolo Bike Park at Crowne Plaza.

PARTICIPATE

  • Gather at 2:30pm in the Second Gear parking lot, 444 Haywood Road
  • Pedal at 3:00pm
  • Arrive about 5:00pm at the Kolo Bike Park, on the Crowne Plaza campus

The Summer Cycle is one in a series of Asheville on Bikes Community Rides held throughout the year. Each ride is designed to help raise awareness of biking as a transportation option and raise confidence for riding our city. The Summer Cycle route winds through historic West Asheville, the River Arts District and over into Emma. Throughout the ride you’ll be journeying on streets where bikes share the roadway with motorized vehicles, streets with separate bike lanes, and greenways shared with pedestrians.

  • Route length: 13.7 miles
  • Elevation change: +683 feet / – 750 feet

Skills you’ll get to practice:

  • Communicating with fellow riders
  • Riding safely in a large group
  • How to share travel space with pedestrians and motorized vehicles
  • Properly using signals and obeying traffic laws
  • Having fun, even on those tough uphills

Sign up today to volunteer for the Summer Cycle. Asheville on Bikes has multiple volunteer options for you, including marking the route ahead of time, Pedal Patrol throughout the ride, Family Pedal Patrol to support families and slower riders, Event Support for the end of ride gathering at Kolo Bike Park (included set up, beer sales, ID checking, info tent, etc.).
